Venice native musician Gigi Masin self-released two modestly pressed LPs 'Wind' (1986) and 'Wind Collector' (1991), neither of which gained any sales or awareness. Seemingly by word of mouth, his music has recently developed into something of a cult following. Masin's productions are intricate, deeply emotive and contemplative and sometimes include sparse and hypnotic looping compositions that could be paralleled to early Detroit Techno. Music From Memory has compiled over 30 years of work from the mid-1980s, including 17 unreleased cuts. This is electronic music from the soul.
Alex Ho's debut album on Music From Memory is a sonic love letter to his hometown of Los Angeles. A pivotal player in the eclectic dance party scene in L.A and an NTS radio regular with his show 'Moon Habits, Ho slows things right down on this shimmering and hazy release. The eight tracks here are full of soft falsetto, gentle drum machine ticks, floating saxophone and soft vibes and keys to soundtrack a perfect golden-hour drive. A personal favourite of mine from 2022!
Visionary “Rap” EP by 18-year-old duo from 1989. Raw, West-Coast flows over early hip-house productions... so good it hurts. WAY ahead of its time! MAJOR TIP!
