Written after a trip home to Swaziland, now known as eSwatini, the Brownswood Future Bubblers artist Sydney recorded the sounds of life there after completing studies of sonic signatures and comparison of traditional instruments around the world. Oozing with an authentic and rich atmosphere, Sydney has crafted seven deep and spiritual cuts with indigenous percussion, tumbling drums and rich spoken word samples. Broken beats with drifting sax lines, horizontal deep house and jazzy hip-hop all contribute to making this an ode to a special place, and people. BIG recommend!
ESSENTIAL. Nine amorphous 'movements' are centred around a seven-note theme that builds and retreats as guided by the late avant-jazz saxophonist Sanders, arranged by mega-producer/DJ Floating Points and brought to life by the London Symphony Orchestra. A fitting swansong to a pioneering master <3
Recorded in a Perth backyard, two mates (Andras and Eleventeen Eston) recorded this modern classic ambient LP that is uniquely provincial, using synthesizer, clarinet and building materials. Essential!
Divine cuts From Auntie Flo - 2 tribal rhythms mixed with field recordings taken in the DMZ between North and South Korea, both centring around traditional Korean instruments.
Anticipated 2nd volume in Manchester DJ Luke Una's series. The genre spaning selections are eclectic, global and on paper, the link is unclear. Played in sequence... magic. A DJ weapon!
