Originally a 2020 Bandcamp exclusive, Carlos Niño offers an extended-cut vinyl release with entirely new material. Niño's past few decades have been spent playing and producing some of the most engaging jazz, hip-hop, ambient and new-age music alongside a plethora of ultra-talented friends, largely from the LA jazz scene. This time he dives deep into avant-jazz, new-age and gorgeous, textural ambient sounds. Homies on this release include Laraaji, Jamael Dean, Shabazz Palaces, Sam Gendel, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and more. Stunning stuff.

The Jazz cats over at Impulse! Records have officially proposed Pino Palladino for the title of 'world's best session bassist'... yeah, you read that right. After a four-decade career supporting many landmark neo-soul acts like Erykah Badu and D'Angelo, this album sees Pino link up with the equally prolific bassist Blake Mills for a masterpiece duet. Blending funk, jazz, West African and Cuban music, the duo enlist the recognisable sound of L.A sax alien Sam Gendel and the INCREDIBLE drummer Chris Dave to fill out the session. An essential modern Jazz release!

Of Lonnie Liston Smith's many outstanding achievements, his work with The Cosmic Echoes will certainly go down in history as his finest. The six-album run from 1973 to 1976 is utterly flawless, and in the midst of it comes Renaissance. This soaring work, which opens up with the heavenly tones of 'Space Lady', sounds as vital now as it did back in 1976, and remarkably it's never been repressed since the time of its release. Sorry, Discogs sharks, for now, this glittering prize of jazz funk is available once again.
